From the earliest dynasties onward, Egypt developed a very high degree of civilization. And the exploitation of metals – copper, bronze and precious metals such as gold and silver – was an essential part of their culture. The Egyptian copper-smith must have been a man of importance since he had to make saws, chisels, knives. As well as dishes and trays, all out of copper or bronze, for artisans of the many trades.

The history of copper in architecture can be linked to its durability, corrosion resistance, prestigious appearance, and also the ability to form complex shapes. For centuries, craftsmen and designers utilized these attributes to build aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting building systems.

Islamic calligraphy is the artistic practice of handwriting and calligraphy. Hence it includes Arabic, Ottoman, and Persian calligraphy. They call the Islamic writing khatt Islami in Arabic, which means Islamic line, design, and construction. The development of Islamic calligraphy is also strongly tied to the Quraan.

The Arabic saying, “Purity of writing is purity of the soul” vividly describes the status of the master calligrapher in Islamic society. Arabs believed that only a person of spiritual devotion and clear thought could achieve the skill for this supreme art. The most talented of calligraphers attained honorable positions as either scribes in the Imperial Palace or as teachers of Imperial rulers. Three great calligraphers from Baghdad founded the Islamic calligraphy; the Vizier Ibn Muqla (886–940) of the Abbasid court, Ibn al-Bawwab, and Yakut al-Musta’simi of Amasya (d. 1298).

Like all our other exquisite jewelry, this plate is handcrafted, and highly detailed by our talented craftsmen. It is also top quality and can last for a lifetime.
